Oatman AZ! What an amazing place! If you think Donkeys are just as cute, sweet and amazing as I do, then you need to visit there!!!
Did you know that Donkeys are native to this area and that they originated from Mexico? I sure didn't. Apparently I was not up to date on my Donkey facts. There are areas near here where Donkeys still roam free and live in the wild, and Oatman is one such place. Located on old route 66 and one of the windiest roads I have ever traveled it was an adventure just to get there.
We took an hour and a half almost to go the 20 some miles on this road. We were in the RV, enough said right....and we did see car wrecks amongst the turns that must have been there for years....
Once inside the actual city of Oatman on the main street, you see even more Donkeys! We quickly bought up food and set about visiting the Donkeys. I'm sure this city has lots of old ghost town charm and touristy stuff but I cared about nothing except my sweet Donkeys!
And sweet they were! Look at the fluffy little babies!!! ahhhh!!! They had little stickers stuck in the forehead fur that said please don't feed me, its was so cute!!
Valdo quickly made friends with this one!!! Adorable!
And don't worry, even though we couldn't feed the babies, they still got enough to eat!
After Oatman we made our way to Boulder city where we would stay and then onto to Vegas for the evening.
On the way in we saw these cool Cactus/trees... They had bark and were shaped like a tree but with cactus on the ends, I have never seen anything like it...
We also thought it might be cool to swing into the Hoover Dam quick, It was cool but not quick or easy by any means. They have check points and security and the place was so crowded it was hard to park and manuver.... I'm not sure If I would ever go back there to visit but it was cool to see this once.
The only shot I got of Lake Mead as we were driving in.
Actual desert desert, with no nothing, only sand. I was hoping to see some of this on the trip and we actually got to.
See the white line on the mountains, that is where the water normally sits. They were having record low water this year.
Sunset as were driving through Vegas on our way to our campsite. We then got all checked in and ready for dinner and headed back in to Vegas.
Vegas was something else. Really not for this country girl. There was so many people. I mean so many! And crazy people too!!! We did kind of have a rough time in Vegas driving also because the RV park owner talked us into taking our RV instead of a taxi as we had planned. causing us to not be able to navigate at all. Seriously. After an hour or more we finally made it to the end of the strip and finally found a place to eat where we could park the RV. Red Lobster. Go figure, we are in Vegas and eat at Red Lobster which we could have anytime at home.
But guess what comes after Vegas???????
LA!!!! Finally Renee and I are chilling together!!!!!!!!!!
